Partners in Hope can best be described as an organization with two main arms. The first arm is a medical center that houses a fully-fledged hospital while the second arm is the programs section, supporting Malawi’s HIV and TB public health programs. Implementation Science and Research is housed within the programs arm; this section is responsible for spearheading all research related activities at PIH, in line with the national public health programs ensuring that knowledge generated informs and contributes to the national public health agenda. PIH has been supporting public health programing since its inception, in 2004, and since 2009, PIH’s public health programing has received several USG grants to support the national HIV and TB programs. Further PIH has also supported Malawi’s response to effects of adverse weather conditions (flooding and cyclones) including perennial disease outbreaks and other emerging conditions of public health importance through UNICEF and UN and USG partners.
Since June 2021, PIH’s public health response received two grants, namely Client Oriented Response for HIV Epidemic Control (CORE) and TB Local Network (TB LON). CORE is a 5-year prestigious grant in the tune of US$80 million supporting the national HIV program towards the achievement of the UNIADS 20230 goals. Under this grant, PIH is supporting 9 districts (123 CHAM, Private and public health facilities) in Malawi namely; Chitipa, Karonga, Nkhotakota, Kasungu, Dowa, Lilongwe, Mulanje, Chikwawa and Nsanje. PIH serves 22% of the national ART cohort (PLHIV alive on treatment) as at 2025, year-end. TB LON grant (US$11.5 million) also covers a 5 years period supporting the national TB program
