Partners in Hope received the TB Local Organization Network 1 (TB LON-1) grant from the United States Government in 2021 with a funding amount of $11,450,815.00. The project is running from June 2021 to June 2026, and we are implementing it in collaboration with a Malawian organization, Paradiso TB Patients Trust, in a consultancy arrangement. Through the TB LON-1 project, PIH is supporting 50 health facilities and 6 prisons across 3 focus districts of Chikwawa, Nsanje, and Lilongwe; and 5 other districts of Kasungu, Dowa, Nkhotakota, Karonga, and Chitipa.

The primary goal of the project is to support TB prevention, diagnostic, and care and treatment services in Malawi that reach all – women (pregnant and non-pregnant), men, youth, children of all ages, the elderly, and key populations. PIH supports staff trainings, mentorship, supervision, procurement and maintenance of medical equipment, and infrastructural renovations. Over the past four years, the project has made remarkable contributions to the TB program performance for the supported sites. For instance, 1) TB case notification across the TB LON-1 supported sites improved from 2,463 in 2021 to 3,421 in 2024; 2) childhood TB cases improved from 155 to 266 cases in 2021 and 2024, respectively; and 3) the TB treatment success rate has been above the national target of 90% throughout the four years.
